ARTIST STATEMENT; Stephens creates paintings which are colorful and vibrant, always searching for a way to crate images imbued with life. The work focuses on relationships between figures in space. Depicted are stages of shapes evolution, sometimes presented in a single work and sometimes as a running theme through multiple canvases. Stephens often uses repetition and pattern making, echoing historic mark-making around the globe. She uses basic shapes to build up a considered and complex image.
